iGaming Glossary / Operator

What is Operator?

The company that runs a casino brand and holds or rents the licence.

An operator is the company behind a casino brand. It runs the website, handles your deposits and withdrawals, sets the bonuses and provides customer support. Crucially, it holds the gambling licence, or rents one through a partner, which is what makes the site legal.

Some operators run many casino brands at once under a single licence, while others focus on just one. A large group may share the same payment systems and support across all its sites, which is why several casinos can feel very similar under the surface.

Knowing who the operator is helps you judge how trustworthy a site is, since a strong company with a good record is safer to play at. The operator is different from the studios that actually make the games. See our casino reviews for who runs each brand.
