iGaming Glossary / MGA (Malta Gaming Authority)

What is MGA (Malta Gaming Authority)?

A respected European regulator that licenses many online casinos and studios.

The MGA, or Malta Gaming Authority, is one of the best known gambling regulators in Europe. It licenses a large share of online casinos and game studios, and a licence from it is widely seen as a sign of decent standards for fairness and player safety.

Casinos licensed by the MGA must keep player money separate from company funds, offer responsible-gambling tools, and follow checks against money laundering. If a dispute cannot be solved with the operator, players can escalate the complaint to the regulator itself.

An MGA licence is not a promise that nothing will ever go wrong, but it usually means a stronger framework than a lighter-touch regime. When comparing sites, it is one of the details worth checking. See how to choose an online casino for the full checklist.
