iGaming Glossary / AML (Anti-Money Laundering)

What is AML (Anti-Money Laundering)?

The rules and checks a licensed casino follows to stop criminal money moving through its accounts. It is the reason behind identity and source-of-funds requests.

AML stands for Anti-Money Laundering. It is a set of legal duties that licensed casinos must follow to make sure their platform is not used to clean dirty money. Regulators take this seriously, and operators can lose their licence if they ignore it.

In practice, AML is why a casino may ask you to confirm your identity, explain where larger deposits came from, or pause an unusually big withdrawal while it runs checks. These requests are routine and apply to honest players too, not just suspected criminals.

The smoothest way through is to play at a properly licensed site, use payment methods in your own name, and have documents ready in advance. Keeping your own spending in check matters as well; the tools at responsible gambling can help.
