What is Basic Strategy?
The mathematically correct blackjack play for every hand against the dealer card. It lowers the house edge to its minimum.
Basic strategy is a complete chart that tells you the best move in blackjack for every combination of your cards against the dealer face up card. For each situation it states whether to hit, stand, double or split, based purely on the maths of the game.
It matters because following it correctly squeezes the house edge down to a fraction of a percent, far better than relying on hunches. It does not let you beat the casino long term, but it makes your money last much longer and removes guesswork from each hand.
