iGaming Glossary / Live Dealer
What is Live Dealer?
A real human dealer streamed in real time from a studio to your screen.
A live dealer is a real person who runs the game from a studio while a camera streams it to your device. You place bets through buttons on screen, and the dealer spins the wheel or deals the cards in front of you. It is the closest online play gets to a real casino floor.
Because everything happens with physical cards, wheels or dice, there is no software picking results behind the scenes. Many players trust this format more, since they can watch the action unfold. You can often chat with the dealer and other players too.
Live tables run on a fixed schedule rather than instantly, so rounds take real time. Stakes range from low to very high, and popular games include blackjack, roulette and baccarat. Our live casino guide explains how to get started.
