iGaming Glossary / Croupier
What is Croupier?
The dealer who runs a casino table game.
A croupier is the trained staff member who runs a table game such as roulette, blackjack or baccarat. They deal cards, spin the wheel, collect losing bets and pay out winning ones, and keep the game moving at a fair and steady pace. The word is French and is used interchangeably with dealer in most casinos.
Why it matters: in a live casino game a real croupier sits between you and the result, which is what makes the experience feel closer to a land-based venue than software-driven tables. They also call the bets and confirm outcomes, so the game stays transparent.
Practical note: a good croupier sets the rhythm of the table and answers questions in chat, but they have no control over the cards or wheel. The odds are fixed by the game rules. See how it all comes together in the live casino guide.
