iGaming Glossary / In-Play Betting
What is In-Play Betting?
Placing bets while an event is already live, with odds that move in real time.
In play betting, also called live betting, lets you wager on a sporting event after it has started rather than only beforehand. As the match unfolds, the sportsbook updates the odds in real time to reflect what is happening on the pitch or court.
This opens up markets you cannot get before kick off, like the next team to score or how many points are scored in the current period. Prices can shift quickly after a goal, a card or an injury, so timing matters a lot.
It is fast and engaging, which also makes it easy to bet more often than you meant to. Set limits before you start. In play betting belongs to the sportsbook side of a gambling site rather than casino games.
