iGaming Glossary / Push

What is Push?

A tie in blackjack or another table game where your stake is returned.

A push is a tie. In blackjack it happens when your hand and the dealer's hand finish on the same total, so neither side wins. When that occurs, your original bet is handed back and you neither gain nor lose on that round.

Pushes show up in other table games too, usually whenever a result lands level with the house. They are a normal part of play and not an error, even though it can feel anticlimactic to get your chips back with nothing added.

Knowing what counts as a push helps you read a table correctly and avoid confusion over a returned bet. The exact rules can vary slightly by game, so the paytable or table rules are always the final word.
