iGaming Glossary / GLI (Gaming Laboratories International)

What is GLI (Gaming Laboratories International)?

A major independent lab that tests and certifies random number generators and games.

GLI, short for Gaming Laboratories International, is one of the best known testing labs in gambling. Operators and providers send their games, random number generators and platforms to GLI so an independent team can check that everything works fairly and as described.

The lab runs statistical tests on the RNG to confirm results are random, verifies that payout percentages match what the paytable claims, and checks the software against the rules of each regulated market.

When you see a GLI certificate, it means the game has passed outside scrutiny rather than relying on the operator's word. It is one of several respected testers alongside eCOGRA. To understand fairness checks more broadly, see our guide to choosing a casino.
