iGaming Glossary / Chip

What is Chip?

A token that represents a stake at a table game.

A chip is the small token, physical at a land based casino and on screen in an online game, that stands in for a set amount of money at a table game. Rather than handling cash on the felt, players bet with chips of different colours and values.

Using chips keeps betting quick and clear, since each colour maps to a known value and the dealer can settle bets at a glance. In online and live dealer games, you simply click the chip value you want and place it on the area you wish to bet.

It is easy to forget that each chip is real money, especially when the values are abstract. Keep an eye on how many you are placing, and stake only what fits your budget. 18+.
