iGaming Glossary / Hold and Win
What is Hold and Win?
A feature where special symbols lock in place and trigger respins, often building toward a jackpot. Also called Hold and Spin.
Hold and Win is a popular slot feature, also sold as Hold and Spin. You usually trigger it by landing a set number of special symbols, often coins with cash values printed on them. Those symbols then lock in place while the rest of the reels respin.
Each time a new special symbol lands, it sticks too and your respin counter resets. The round continues until you fill the screen or run out of respins, and your prize is the total of the locked values.
Many versions tie the feature to fixed or progressive jackpots, awarded when you fill every position. It is built for tension as the board slowly fills. To see how jackpots layer on top, read our progressive jackpot guide.
