iGaming Glossary / Respin
What is Respin?
A single extra spin awarded after a result, often holding some symbols in place.
A respin is one bonus spin granted after a normal result, usually without an extra charge. In many slots it holds certain symbols in place while the rest of the reels turn again, giving you a fresh chance to complete a winning pattern or a feature.
Respins often appear in hold and win games, where landing special symbols locks them and triggers spins that reset each time a new one lands. The idea is to build toward filling the screen or reaching a jackpot.
Unlike a full free spins round, a respin is usually a single targeted chance rather than a long bonus. The paytable explains exactly which symbols stick and what the respin can award, so it is worth a quick read before you rely on it.
