iGaming Glossary / Sticky Wild

What is Sticky Wild?

A wild symbol that stays in place for a set number of spins.

A sticky wild is a wild symbol that locks onto its spot and stays there for several spins instead of disappearing after one. Most often this happens during a free spins round, where one or more wilds are held in place while the reels keep turning around them.

Because the wild stays put, it can help complete winning lines spin after spin. If a few sticky wilds build up across the reels, your chances of landing a paying combination grow with each turn, which is why this feature is popular in bonus rounds.

Sticky wilds are a cousin of walking wilds and expanding wilds, which behave differently. See our slots guide for how wild features shape the way a game pays.
